Because of a fault with the signalling system, train services on the West of England main line from Waterloo to Exeter are being disrupted. The disruption is expected to last until 3 pm, and will particularly affect services between London Waterloo and Yeovil Junction / Exeter St Davids, and between Salisbury and Yeovil Junction. The fault happened between Tisbury and Gillingham (Dorset), and is affecting all lines. Train services between Salisbury and Yeovil Junction may be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes, or run to an amended timetable. The problem was caused by a power issue that requires a cable to be replaced, and engineers are currently on site carrying out the repairs. Although the line from Salisbury towards Yeovil Junction is blocked, trains are still travelling from Yeovil Junction to Salisbury, but if they run, they will travel at a slower speed through the affected area. The effect on long-distance and main-line services is that trains from Salisbury towards Yeovil Junction are being diverted via Westbury, whilst trains from Yeovil Junction towards Salisbury will either run slower towards Salisbury, or be diverted via Westbury. Replacement road transport is being provided for passengers to travel between Salisbury and Yeovil Junction using either buses or minibuses. Alternatively, passengers can use their tickets at no extra cost to travel on Great Western Railway (GWR) services between London Paddington and Exeter St Davids and between Basingstoke and Reading. Anyone whose train is cancelled can travel on an alternative service operated by any other participating train operator from two hours before to two hours after the original departure time of the cancelled service. Anyone who decides not to travel, or is unable to complete their journey because of a cancelled train, can obtain a full refund from their original point of sale.
