The Severn Valley Railway has hailed the success of its autumn half-term Halloween services as they look towards a very busy Christmas season to see out 2026.
All of the railway’s Steam and Scream Halloween services were completely sold out, and with tickets selling fast for pre-booked December services, it looks as though the railway’s many special Christmas services will follow suit.
The Severn Valley Railway’s Elf Express and Santa Steam specials now feature more than a train ride, as live entertainment, immersive storytelling and interaction all play a part in the festive experience, not forgetting that every child also receives a gift from Santa.
The Santa Steam specials take passengers from Kinderminster to Arley to see A Recipe for Christmas, a new interactive stage show uniquely tailored to the railway.
Written by Nick Winston, an award-winning West End director, with music by Jack McManus, the show takes place inside Santa’s kitchen, where Mrs Claus and her elves take centre stage to prepare Santa’s pre-flight meal before chaos breaks loose thanks to mischievous elf Crumble.
The show includes audience participation, laughter, and surprises as Mrs Claus rescues the situation.
The Elf Express departing from Bridgnorth features an immersive journey by heritage train as a cast of colourful characters make their way along each compartment, telling a Christmas story which also includes puppetry, in a show put on by the Wise Owl Theatre Company.
Tickets for the last few seats on The Elf Express and Santa Steam Express are still available to book via the Severn Valley Railways website. Potential passengers are being encouraged to book these spaces as soon as possible to ensure no one misses out on an unforgettable Christmas experience.
“We’re absolutely delighted with the response to our Ghost and Scream Trains. To sell out every single departure is a fantastic endorsement of the experiences we create here at the SVR and the hard work of everyone involved.
“We’re now looking forward to bringing that same sense of excitement, imagination and attention to detail to Christmas. Both our Santa Steam Specials and Elf Express have been created to give families something really special, with wonderful entertainment and plenty of opportunities to make lasting memories together.
“Christmas is one of our busiest and most magical times of the year, and bookings are already hotting up. If you’re thinking of joining us, my advice would be to book soon to avoid disappointment. We’d love to welcome you aboard!”
