The Watercress Line in Hampshire will run Steam Illuminations from 27 November 2026 to 2 January 2027, featuring a steam train with synchronised LED lights, music, interactive activities, and festive station attractions.

The Watercress Line in Hampshire is set to light up the Hampshire sky during the upcoming festive season with its Steam Illuminations. The popular experience, being held from Friday, 27th November to Saturday, 2nd January 2027, promises an unforgettable evening of sparkling lights, favourite tunes, and festive fun. The event sees a traditional steam train turned into a mesmerising light show with thousands of synchronised LED bulbs, where passengers enjoy seasonal music and enchanting entertainment throughout their journey. New for this year is the Disco Ball Alley, where suspended mirror balls create a dazzling light display across the countryside and fill the carriages with shimmering disco vibes. At the summit of the journey, the magical spectacle will see visitors enjoy an upgraded Snow Light Cascade. During the journey, there will be interactive games and jolly singalongs, as well as the much-loved ‘Voiceover Man’, well-known as a voice on Britain’s Got Talent and The X Factor. Voiceover Man will also add extra fun to the journey with his Christmas Quiz. Until Monday, 28th December, Christmas Vibes will provide fun and Christmas tunes, then Party Anthems is the theme from Tuesday, 29th December to Saturday, 2nd January, with a chance to sing and dance in the aisles. Everyone will receive an interactive LED wristband that flashes in sync with the music to take home after the event. The Steam Illuminations train departs from Alresford or Alton for a journey lasting approximately one hour and 45 minutes. At Alresford, there are chalets in the Christmas Village, illuminated projections, Talking and Singing Trees, and a marshmallow-toasting area. Further information and ticket booking details can be found here, and if last year is anything to go by, tickets soon sell out. The latest special event on the line was an immersive spooky adventure for Halloween. “There’s something wonderful about celebrating Christmas on a steam train, and our Steam Illuminations give families and friends the chance to create memories together that they’ll treasure long after the decorations come down. From the dazzling lights and music onboard the trains, to the festive atmosphere at our stations, it’s a real Christmas experience from start to finish. We’re looking forward to welcoming visitors on board and making this year’s Steam Illuminations our most fantastic one yet.” Rebecca Dalley, CEO, the Watercress Line
