The plan will assess new entrances, improved onward travel links and capacity upgrades as passenger numbers rise, driven partly by East West Rail and other service increases.
Projek ini signals future demand for station civil works, passenger flow, wayfinding and interchange-related systems that Malaysian rail suppliers can target through UK partners or as subcontractors.

Network Rail has appointed a ‘masterplanning team’ to develop a design to improve Oxford station.
The team will be led by Hawkins\Brown, who will be working in collaboration with 5th Studio. It will consider enhancements to the station, including new entrances and better onward travel connections.
Both the city of Oxford and the footfall through its railway station are growing rapidly, so there is a need to expand the station’s capacity and accessibility.
Eight million passengers travel through Oxford station every year – 24,000 each day – with that figure set to double over the next year. The increase is being driven by East West Rail, the new railway corridor being constructed to link Oxford with Cambridge and stations in between. There will also be an increase in services from Oxford to Cowley and Bristol.
Network Rail will lead the masterplan and will work in collaboration with its own property development company, Platform4, and with both Oxford City Council and Oxfordshire County Council.
Network Rail says that it will take what it calls a “transport-first approach” which will take into consideration the growing demand for rail services and for interchanges between lines and transport modes. It will also consider how best to deliver supporting development.
The new masterplan has three priorities: creating a high-quality station ready for future growth; providing new entrances that offer a welcoming gateway to the city; and improving facilities for onward travel.
It also supports the government’s ‘Plan for Change’, which Network Rail describes as a “mission to rebuild Britain and improve the infrastructure that people rely on every day”.
As a part of the delivery of the county’s OxRail 2040: Plan for Rail, we are seeing great improvements in services from Oxford, with new and higher frequency services along with additional and modern trains being progressed. The redevelopment of the station is a key priority and desperately needed to provide better facilities and capacity for the people of Oxfordshire – as is providing seamless integration with buses and cycling but also being a key transport hub and gateway to the city.
